Why I'm Running
I've been engaged in some form of public service most of my adult life, but this is my first run for elected office. I've served as a teacher both in high schools and at the university level because I am very grateful for my education and believe it has the power to transform lives like nothing else. The opportunity to teach has been a privilage but I'm ready for new challenges.
Learning about urban planning, zoning and assessing has given me an appreciation for the public servants who do this work and the complex decision making processes that shape the places we call home. I love the goal setting and creative problem solving involved in making good decisions for a community, and the elected officials rightly do that.
After working in the trenches as an assessor and code enforcement officer, following and enforcing the rules, I've seen what works and what could be improved; the right and wrong ways to do things. I believe an ethical, well-run government is the essential baseline from which people can create a civil society, get an education, enjoy health and safety, and pursue their dreams. I want to contribute to that process at the local level, where it makes the most day-to-day difference for my neighbors.
